Information

Shakespeare’s plays have been inspiring composers for centuries, from Purcell’s FAIRY QUEEN, based on “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, right up to Tomas Adès’ studies for “The Tempest”. And this trip through time ends at the present day: this year the Deutsche Oper Orchestra is commissioning a work of chamber music that will be based on the “Romeo and Juliet” tragedy and include passages of Shakespeare’s own language.

Programme

Henry Purcell (1659 – 1695)
from THE FAIRY QUEEN

Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809 – 1847)
from „Ein Sommernachtstraum“, adapted for piano trio and string quartet

Court Studies from THE TEMPEST for piano, violin, clarinet and violoncello

Igor Strawinskij (1882 – 1971)
Three Shakespeare-songs for mezzosoprano, flute, clarinet and viola

Sergej Prokofjew (1891 – 1953)
