Dear Opera Lovers,

the Deutsche Oper Berlin inevitably conjures up images in most of you of the main stage with its unforgettable performances of the works of Wagner, Verdi and Puccini. Yet there is so much more to discover. Aside from the Tischlerei, which has been hosting jazz, chamber music and unconventional musical theatre for a decade now, the parking deck of the opera house has established itself over the last two years as the perfect venue for open-air productions on a late-summer evening. The season launches with a reprise of Mark-Anthony Turnage’s opera GREEK, our hit production from last summer. This is the first of a number of events that will be staged not only on the parking deck and in the Tischlerei but also at other venues across the city until the end of October. This booklet gives you the facts on our varied programme of events in the Tempodrom, Philharmonie, Konzerthaus and Haus der Berliner Festspiele, events that range from jazz to opera as a staged premiere or concertante version. And there’s a good reason why the main stage is lying fallow: we’re refurbishing and extending the orchestra pit. In early November we’ll be back treading the boards. — We look forward to seeing you. Best wishes – Dietmar Schwarz
