the content

Please, no hollow solidarity, no cheap sympathy, was the first request of the requested participants for this evening. A terrible war is raging in Ukraine. "Make peace!" - is one loud cry across Europe, but it goes unanswered.

Two days before the premiere of Giuseppe Verdi's LES VÊPRES SICILIENNES - one of the great liberation operas of the 19th century - a special edition of the late-night series AUS DEM HINTERHALT will take place, on the occasion of the war in Ukraine under the motto AUS DEM HINTERHALT: MACHT DEM FRIEDEN! in cooperation with Europe Calling e.V. and the magazine Osteuropa. Curator and director Elia Rediger invites you to an evening defined by contrasts: between peace action, cultural exchange and political science discourse. Between art that is able to comfort with words and sounds and current figures and assessments of the brutal reality of war.

Well-known political scientists, Dr. Volker Weichsel (Zeitschrift Osteuropa), Sabine Fischer (Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik, Berlin) and Andreas Umland (Institute for International Relations, Stockholm) have been invited as discussion partners. The international ensemble Polýnushka, which explores and brings to life the musical culture of Ukrainian and Russian folklore with its roots in pre-Christian rituals, will be the musical guest. And Maritina Tampakopoulos and Valyntyn Dytiuk from the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper Berlin will draw a bridge to the music of the composer Verdi with excerpts from LES VÊPRES SICILIENNES.
