A joint production of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Haus für Poesie
The juxtaposition of Russian and American songs determines the last two programmes of Lieder und Dichter*innen this season. In "Nur wer die Sehnsucht kennt", works by Tchaikovsky and his contemporaries meet the song cycle "Seen and unseen" by the British-American composer Tarik O'Regan. His idiosyncratic blend of musical influences, ranging from the Renaissance to minimal music and jazz, has not only earned the 45-year-old O'Regan two Grammy nominations to date, but also the honour of composing part of the official music for the coronation of Charles III. Meechot Marrero, Maria Motolygina, Artur Garbas and Kyle Miller from the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper Berlin will sing, accompanied by John Parr, who has already premiered O'Regan's song cycle in San Francisco.

Classical art songs and modern poetry – lieder recital meets poetry reading in this series of events organised jointly with the Haus für Poesie Berlin. Each of the four evening events held in the foyer of the Deutsche Oper Berlin will feature a poet reading original works whose themes complement the songs on the programme.
