Valerio Galli, 1980 in Viareggio geboren, studierte Klavier, Komposition und ab 2003 Dirigieren bei Piero Bellugi, Aldo Faldi, Donato Renzetti und Carlo Moreno Volpini. Für sein Debütdirigat von TOSCA beim 53. Puccini-Festival wurde er mit der „Maschera dʼoro“ ausgezeichnet. Im Jahr 2013 wurde er mit der 42. Ausgabe des prestigeträchtigen Premio Puccini für zukünftige herausragende künstlerische Leistungen im Repertoire ausgezeichnet.

Valerio Galli ist Erster Gastdirigent an der Oper in Toulon.

Zu seinen bisherigen Engagements gehören u. a. MADAMA BUTTERFLY an der Opéra de Toulon, ein Sinfoniekonzert im Concertgebouw Amsterdam, TOSCA und LA RONDINE am Teatro del Maggio in Florenz, TOSCA am Teatro Comunale in Bologna, TURANDOT am San Diego Civic Theatre, TOSCA am Michigan Opera Theatre in Detroit sowie IL CAPPELLO DI PAGLIA DI FIRENZE in Neapel. Er dirigierte CARMEN am Michigan Opera Theatre in Detroit, LA BOHÈME am Teatro San Carlo in Neapel, PAGLIACCI am Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, LA BOHÈME und TURANDOT am Teatro Regio in Parma, DON CARLO und ADRIANA LEOUVREUR am Teatro Carlo Felice in Genua, TOSCA in Catania. Zu den jüngsten Engagements gehören einige der weniger bekannten Opern wie FEDORA am Teatro Carlo Felice in Genua und ADRIANA LECOUVREUR in Skopje mit Daniela Dessi, das Diptychon ZANETTO und CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA in Livorno, LA RONDINE für die Fresno Grand Opera und Le Villi in Managua sowie MADAMA BUTTERFLY am Teatro Municipale in Piacenza, in Modena, Lucca, Livorno und Rovigo, die Einweihung des Theaters von Zhuhai Huafa (China) mit TURANDOT, ein Verdi-Rezital mit Daniela Dessi in Parma mit der Philharmonie A. Toscanini, TOSCA zur Eröffnung des 61. Puccini-Festivals, LA FORZA DEL DESTINO am Teatro Verdi in Pisa, TOSCA am Teatro Coccia in Novara, MADAMA BUTTERFLY (Version Brescia 1904) am Teatro Carlo Felice in Genua, CAVLLERIA RUSTICANA, L'AMICO FRITZ und Faurés „Requiem“ in Cagliari, LA FANCIULLA DEL WEST in Pavia, Como, Cremona und Brescia, ZANETTO am Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, Rossinis „Stabat Mater“ in Triest, GIANNI SCHICCHI in Empoli, MADAMA BUTTERFLY in Stuttgart, L'HEURE ESPAGNOLE und LA BOHÈME in Toulon. An der Deutschen Oper Berlin gab er sein Hausdebüt am 8. Januar 2023 in Puccinis TOSCA.

Advents-Verlosung: Das 21. Fensterchen

On 12 April 2025, we will celebrate the revival of DIE MEISTERSINGER VON NÜRNBERG in the production by Jossi Wieler, Sergio Morabito and Anna Viebrock, with Thomas Johannes Mayer as Hans Sachs, Elena Tsallagova as Eva, Magnus Vigilius as Walther von Stolzing and Chance Jonas-O'Toole as David, as part of our ‘Richard Wagner in April’ weeks. But today, we are giving away our DVD, which was recorded in collaboration with the NAXOS label in the premiere series in early summer 2022.

More popular than almost any other stage work by Richard Wagner, DIE MEISTERSINGER VON NÜRNBERG is loved and hated at the same time. The play combines a light-hearted comedy plot with a summer night's drunken play about the delusion and reality of love, but at the same time claims to be a founding manifesto of German national art and is therefore more historically charged in its reception than almost any other work by Richard Wagner. At the same time, however, DIE MEISTERSINGER is first and foremost a piece about music and music-making.

Telling the story of DIE MEISTERSINGER in a world dedicated to music is also the starting point for the directorial concept of Jossi Wieler, Anna Viebrock and Sergio Morabito. In it, they tell of the rules and rigid dogmas that govern this world and which thus become an example for numerous contexts in which people set rules, subordinate themselves and find refuge in them or want to break out and escape. They bring a play to the stage in which singers also play singers in order to tell a story about singing. And they show characters such as Hans Sachs, an ageing man who renounces his love for Eva in favour of a younger man and at the same time wants to reform the system, but does not shy away from demagoguery and populism - while the breath of history occasionally blows in the ghosts of the Meistersinger past.
