The eventful biography of Georg Friedrich Händel from Halle, who died in London on 14.04.1759, resembles the lives of jazz legends, and the richness of his music invites jazz interpretation. The Berlin pianist Rolf Zielke arranges impressions from the music of various Handel compositions for the unusual instrumentation of these evenings.
A promising undertaking: Handel's music, characterised by baroque joie de vivre, meets the rhythmic sensuality of South America and the sparkling joy of playing of this rousing jazz ensemble.
Its arrangements shed new light - full of respect - on Handel's original music.

“Since jazz is one of the most intriguing languages out there, it’s natural to want to combine it with texts and poetry.”
In its new series of jazz events in the Tischlerei the Big Band of the Deutsche Oper Berlin presents six themed concerts featuring smaller formations of the Big Band and guests. The concerts focus on a particular subject or composer, amalgamating music and poetry. Texts, biographical information, poetry and background information on the evening’s unifying theme combine to produce a unique experience for the audience.
