Coronavirus - Performances cancelled
On 22nd April, the new directive issued by the State of Berlin prohibiting large public events due to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic takes effect. As a result no events, regardless of size, will be taking place at the Deutsche Oper Berlin until after 31st July 2020.

This means that our 2019/20 season has come to an untimely end. We are sincerely grateful for your support and have treasured our shared experiences of fine musical theatre over recent months. We hope to see you again soon. Dietmar Schwarz: “I join the entire Deutsche Oper Berlin team in expressing deep regret over the cancellation of our May and June events, which were to include the hotly anticipated launch of our RING OF THE NIBELUNG cycle, conducted and directed by our formidable duo, Donald Runnicles and Stefan Herheim, and the premieres of Rued Langgaard’s ANTIKRIST and Peter I. Tchaikovsky’s THE QUEEN OF SPADES, which were cancelled on 12th and 25th March. We sincerely hope to soon be in a position to present all the works that we have been planning and preparing over these weeks and months. We are firm believers that art will be all the more important to us as human beings during, and above all after, this difficult period – both as a way of making sense of what we have been through and of shaping our outlook for the future.”

We will notify you as soon as we can of our plans for the 2020/21 season, modified to take account of the current situation, our digital offerings on the website and the new date for advance ticket sales.

We miss you all and are extremely sad about the demise of our intensively rehearsed and eagerly awaited performances, some of which have been in the pipeline for 2 years. We look forward to seeing you again at your (and our) Deutsche Oper Berlin!

Our ticket sales team is under great strain due to the cancellations and is working flat out processing ticket reimbursements. We can only ask for your patience and understanding at this difficult time. Please direct any queries to us by phone on +49 30 343 84 343, by email to info@deutscheoperberlin.de or in person from 27th April at our on-site box office, which is open from Monday to Friday (excl. Bank Holidays) between 12 noon and 7pm.

For ticket reimbursements, please fill out the following Returns Form by 31st July 2020 at the latest. We are especially grateful to any patron choosing the voucher or the account-crediting option.

Season 2020/21

Following an extended period of enforced inactivity, we are delighted to present our new programme for August and September. In our current mode of “Open Opera” we are taking our first cautious steps in the direction of business as usual, serving up works encompassing Wagner, Verdi, Beethoven and jazz, in semi-staged or concertante form and featuring top international stars. In August our elevated parking deck becomes the strange and wondrous setting for three performances and four concerts, prior to the reopening in September of the main stage. Regretfully, we reserve the right to make any changes to the programme dictated by current circumstances. Tickets for August events go on sale on Monday 22nd June 2020, 12:00h. We expect ticket bookings for September to open on 17th August.
