In the 2025/26 season, Forum, the Staatsballett Berlin’s discussion series, turns its focus to collections and archives. On 19 November 2025, the spotlight will be on “cabinets of curiosities” — those historical wunderkammern where objects from across the globe were assembled: places of wonder and learning, but also of power and display.

The point of departure is the world premiere of Wunderkammer by award-winning choreographer Marcos Morau. The Spanish artist transforms the stage into a living cabinet of curiosities, where cabaret, club culture and historical references collide. His production asks how collecting and categorising impressions might translate into dance, and what stories can emerge from that process.

Together with guests from the arts and academia, as well as dancers from Wunderkammer, the Forum will explore what archives and collections can reveal about choreographic thinking, aesthetic choices and cultural memory — and how the new work Wunderkammer engages with these ideas.

The event will be held in German, with English passages summarised in German.
