The anticipation for the initial performances is great among us – the over 500 people who work at the Deutsche Oper Berlin – and all of us are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to perform for you again.

This energy is most palpable during the preparations for the opening celebration, when the season begins and we can show you everything that we have been passionate about – be it a preview of the major debuts, or some insight into the work that goes on every day on stage and behind the scenes. I am thus looking forward to this day because we will show that the opera world is not elitist, and that everybody has a place in it. Our opening celebration will also be special because it will be the first time in five years that it can lawfully be held. I hope you will mark 3 September on your calendars!

Of course, we will have a lot to show for the beginning of the season, including a new round of our “Playground” on 25 August, jazz concerts, and a play schedule in which September is almost entirely dedicated to Italian opera: From Rossini’s comedy masterpieces to the verismo opera crime stories CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA and PAGLIACCI, as well as the first premiere on 30 September – Puccini’s IL TRITTICO – for which young director Pınar Karabulut is returning to our theatre.
